The RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated on the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
“On April 24, we commemorate and pay tribute to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide committed in the Ottoman Empire.
1.5 million men, women, children, and the elderly fell victim to the Great Genocide, who were killed or sentenced to death simply because they were Armenians.
This crime committed against the Armenian people became one of the historical examples that served as the basis for the adoption of the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in 1948.
Despite the efforts of the international community, in the 21st century, we continue to witness racial and ethnic intolerance, hatred, and new mass crimes committed on this basis.
Armenia feels obligated to be continuously and consistently involved in identifying and early warning signs of such crimes, and to support initiatives aimed at their prevention and elimination.
Through Armenia’s efforts, December 9, 2015, was included in the UN’s list of international days as the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and for the Prevention of that Crime. In 2025, the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted the resolution “Decade of the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and for the Prevention of that Crime” submitted by Armenia. In March 2026, the UN Human Rights Council unanimously adopted the resolution “Prevention of Genocide” submitted by Armenia.
Remembering the past and paying tribute to the memory of the innocent victims of the Armenian Genocide, the Republic of Armenia is building its sovereign future with an agenda of peace. “The existence of good-neighborly relations and real cooperation between neighboring states is the minimum condition necessary to establish lasting peace in the South Caucasus and ensure peaceful coexistence of all peoples of our region.”
