“The salinity of seawater is determined by the salts dissolved in it, mainly sodium chloride (table salt).
Salts reach the oceans as a result of the weathering of land rocks and their washing away by surface currents. Volcanic activity also increases the salt content of ocean water.
The average salinity of the World Ocean is approximately 35 grams of salt per liter of water. However, it varies by region and depth.
It is interesting to note that the salt content of human blood has some similarities to that of seawater. This is not a coincidence and can be explained by the evolutionary theory of the origin of life in the ocean.
The salt content in human blood is approximately 9 grams per liter, which is equivalent to 0.9%. This concentration ensures the normal functioning of the body’s cells and organs.
The average salinity of the World Ocean is approximately 35 grams per liter, which is equivalent to 3.5%. This value is approximately 3.9 times higher than the salt content in human blood.
Despite the difference in absolute values, the ratios of various ions in seawater and human blood are similar. For example, sodium and chloride ions are the main ones in both blood and seawater.
