This award ceremony is symbolic because the final stage of the negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan took place here in July last year, a month before the historic summit in Washington. Ilham Aliyev stated at the Human Fraternity Award Ceremony in Abu Dhabi.
“We were at war for more than 30 years. We have been at peace for six months now. As I have said many times, we are learning to live in peace. I can say that it is a unique feeling. We have not lived in peace since independence. And we are learning quickly.
Thus, the past six months since the historic summit in Washington, mediated by US President Donald Trump, have been months of partnership, cooperation, and progress towards lasting and sustainable peace,” Aliyev said.
