On January 27, RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with PACE President Petra Bair in Strasbourg. Minister Mirzoyan congratulated Petra Bair on her election as PACE President.
The RA Foreign Minister noted that his visit to Strasbourg is symbolic, as it coincides with the 25th anniversary of Armenia’s membership in the Council of Europe, emphasizing the importance of cooperation with the CoE on the path to democratic development. “Armenia is a democracy, and this is an irreversible process, as we continue to adhere to the ambitious agenda of democratic reforms, despite various challenges,” Minister Mirzoyan added.
The interlocutors emphasized the importance of interparliamentary cooperation, as evidenced by the active involvement of Armenian delegation members on the PACE platform.
Ararat Mirzoyan and Petra Bair exchanged views on regional developments. Minister Mirzoyan presented the steps taken and ongoing efforts to strengthen and institutionalize the peace established between Armenia and Azerbaijan as a result of the August 8 agreements. Humanitarian issues were touched upon.
The RA Foreign Minister expressed gratitude for PACE’s consistent support on issues of most significant importance to Armenia.
