A grand dinner was held as part of US President Donald Trump’s state visit to the United Kingdom. This was one of the central events. During the dinner, Charles III and Donald Trump made short speeches.
The dinner menu included dishes from British and American cuisine.
The king spoke about the long common history of the United Kingdom and the United States, not bypassing the war of independence of the North American colonies in the 18th century, and spoke about the “new era” of their partnership.
“Today, when tyranny again threatens Europe, we and our allies stand together in support of Ukraine to deter aggression and bring peace,” the monarch said.
Donald Trump then gave a several-page speech, in which he lavishly listed the achievements of British culture and civilization. He barely touched on current events, only noting that “a year ago,” under the previous administration, the United States was a “very sick” country.
“Today, we must protect the exceptional heritage that makes us who we are, and we must continue to protect the values and peoples of the English-speaking world, and we are indeed doing that,” the US president concluded, proposing a toast to the king.
