France 24 denies reports of Anna Hakobyan embezzling $3.4 million

The French TV channel France 24 has denied the news spread by fake pages that the wife of the Armenian Prime Minister, Anna Hakobyan, allegedly embezzled $3.4 million from the “City of Smiles” foundation created to support people with cancer and blood diseases.

The French TV channel addressed the topic because the website that spread the news published articles using the names of France 24 journalists. The TV company emphasizes that the Euleaks website, created on August 12, a day before the publication of the fake article about the wife of the Armenian Prime Minister, used the names of 6 France 24 journalists in its articles, who, however, have no connection with that website. In particular, it is noted that the fake news about Anna Hakobyan was published in the name of former France 24 journalist James Creedon.

France 24 emphasizes that the Euleaks website is a fake news platform created recently. According to the television company, the website’s domain data shows that it was launched on August 12, the day before the publication of the fake article about the wife of the Armenian Prime Minister. The website published dozens of international news articles in English, which were most likely created using artificial intelligence.

The French television company also contacted the Armenian branch of Transparency International, which stated that it did not have any information to confirm the allegations made in the article about the wife of the Armenian Prime Minister.

The Euleaks website attributed its allegations about the so-called corruption scandal to lawyer Sergey Harutyunyan. However, he later clarified and stated that he had never made such statements as the website attributed to him.

The French TV channel concludes that the article mentioned above is another manifestation of the information campaign against Armenia, recalling that recently the fake website Courrier France 24 had spread information that France was allegedly preparing to transport nuclear waste to Armenia.
