Donald Trump announced during a White House meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the United States plans to start talks with Iran. He added that progress has been made on the issue of resettling Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, despite its controversial nature.
Speaking to reporters at the start of a dinner for US and Israeli officials, Netanyahu said that Washington and Tel Aviv are working with other countries that are ready to provide the Palestinians with a “better future”, suggesting that Gazans could move to neighboring countries.
“If people want to stay, let them stay, but if they want to leave, they should have the opportunity to do so,” Netanyahu said.
“We are working very closely with the United States to find countries that are ready to implement the idea that has long been voiced, to give the Palestinians a better future. “I think we’re getting to the point where we’re going to find a few countries like that,” he said.
Trump, who initially reacted with reservations to Netanyahu’s comments on Palestinian resettlement, later noted that countries surrounding Israel were supportive.
“We’ve had a great partnership with those countries, every single one of them. I think something positive is going to happen,” Trump said.
