European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has said the European Union has offered the United States zero tariffs on industrial goods as the EU seeks to avert a transatlantic trade war.
“We are ready to negotiate with the United States. Indeed, we have offered zero-to-zero tariffs on industrial goods, as we have successfully done with many other trading partners. Europe is always ready for good deals,” von der Leyen said, adding that the offer came before President Trump announced sweeping new tariffs last week.
