The Parliament of Georgia will discuss the impeachment of the country’s president at noon. President Salome Zurabishvili promised to attend the meeting and say “everything that has accumulated.” He warned that “the time for dreaming has passed for the Georgian Dream.” In response, the ruling party reminded them that, at one time, it was “Yerazank” that brought it to power. It has yet to be made clear when the actual voting will occur. Some media assume it is tonight, while others discuss Friday. Zurabishvili said this was an “anti-European impeachment” and called the initiators “pity people.”
100 votes are needed for the president’s resignation. The parliamentary majority will secure 88 votes if no opposition party supports the impeachment. Some opposition parties have announced that they will not enter the hall during the voting to avoid looking for traitors in their ranks later. If 100 members of the parliament do not vote in favor of impeachment, then the decision of the Supreme Court will not have legal force and will remain only on paper. Zurabishvili will continue in office until the end of next year.
