On April 4, Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Chuka received Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in Bucharest.
The interlocutors noted the possibilities of expanding cooperation between the two countries in various fields, noting with satisfaction that the official visit organized at the level of the Foreign Minister after a long break can be an essential stimulus in that direction. Both sides emphasized the need to make joint efforts in the direction of economic cooperation and development of business relations, emphasizing the format of the Armenia-Romania intergovernmental joint commission in this context.
Thoughts were exchanged on the expanding Armenia-EU cooperation based on shared values. The EU’s support for democratic reforms, the development agenda in Armenia, and the deployment of the EU civilian observation mission on the Armenia-Azerbaijan interstate border were highly appreciated. In this context, the Minister of Foreign Affairs thanked the Romanian side for supporting the mission’s implementation.
During the meeting, Ararat Mirzoyan and Nikolae Chuka also exchanged thoughts on regional issues.
RA Foreign Minister briefed the Romanian Prime Minister on the security situation in the South Caucasus. Minister Mirzoyan emphasized that Azerbaijan’s illegal blocking of the Lachin Corridor and the humanitarian crisis created in Nagorno-Karabakh, the gross violations of other provisions of the tripartite declaration of November 9, 2020, as well as the aggressions against the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia and the extreme rhetoric undermine the direction of establishing peace and security in the region—The efforts of the Armenian side.
The inadmissibility of using force or the threat of power and the need to address all issues through the peace process was emphasized.
