Deputy chairman and executive secretary of Azerbaijani ruling party “Yeni Azerbaijan”, Ali Ahmadov, told country’s media that Russia’s refusal to continue the operation of the Gabala radar station should not be a cause for tensions in the Azerbaijani-Russian relations.
According to him, the Azerbaijani side has proposed to extend the operation of Gabala radar station by Moscow, but the Russian side did not accept the offer.
“This decision was taken as part of normal relations and negotiations between the two countries. It is Russia’s choice. If Russia came to the decision not to operate the Gabala radar station in the future, this should not give rise to tensions in our relations”, said Ahmadov, adding “Suspension of the Gabala radar station will not give rise to tensions between the two countries since Azerbaijani-Russian relations are formed by many factors, including economic, human and cultural ties.”
According to him, the Gabala radar can be used in the future, if it is important from the point of view of security of Azerbaijan.
