US President Joe Biden sent a condolence message on the occasion of the Armenian Genocide Memorial Day.
“Today, we remember the lives of those who died during the Armenian Genocide and reaffirm our promise never to forget it. The campaign of brutality began on April 24, 1915, when the Ottoman authorities arrested Armenian intellectuals and public leaders in Constantinople. In the days, months, and years that followed, one and a half million Armenians were displaced, killed, or sent to their deaths, leaving families forever destroyed and generations forever changed.
Mourning for this tragedy, we also pay tribute to the endurance of the Armenian people. Surviving one of the darkest pages in human history, the survivors began to build a better future for our world. Showing courage and determination, they rebuilt their lives. They preserved their culture. They strengthened the unity of nations around the world, including our own. And they were telling their stories to ensure that the mass atrocities that began on this day 109 years ago would never happen again.
This remains our solemn oath. Today and every day, the United States will continue to protect human rights and stand up against intolerance. We will continue to meet hate and terror with hope and healing. We will continue to support all those who aspire to a future where everyone can live with dignity, safety and respect,” said Biden’s message.
