Prominent Swiss Locarno Film Festival’s Open Doors co-production mart will focus on films from Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan this year. The official webpage of the festival also informs that the Festival del film Locarno’s section that supports and puts the spotlight on filmmakers and films from countries in the South and East where independent cinema is vulnerable will also introduce a new component.
This year “Open Doors” enters its second decade with a new feature: the initiative that enables the selected filmmakers and producers to meet potential partners will now also hold a workshop for professionals. The morning will be devoted to one-on-one meetings, while the afternoon will focus on training and information.
The fest dedicated to international indie cinema has recruited Russian and Euro-Asian cinema expert Joel Chapron, who is also an Unfinanced collaborator, as consultant in selecting a dozen participating projects from these countries in the South Caucasus.
Open Doors also assign a prize worth 50,000 Swiss Francs ($54,000), and other smaller cash nods offered by Gaul’s CNC and broadcaster ARTE.
The format is being modified with one-on-one meetings to be scheduled in the morning and panels and presentations in the afternoon.
Locarno will have its 66th edition August 7-17.
