By appointing a representative of the United States Army in the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, Washington intends to support Yerevan in improving the management of the security sector, which will, in turn, contribute to the strengthening of Armenian-American relations.
In response to Armenpress’s inquiry, the US Embassy in Armenia informed us about this, clarifying that the selection of the civilian adviser has already been made and that he will start work this year. “The US Department of State’s Global Defense Reform Program supports partner states around the world in building more resilient, effective, and accountable security institutions by providing strategic level advisory support,” the embassy noted, referring to the statement made by US Deputy Secretary of State Ezra Zeya a few days ago that the representative of the American army will work in the Ministry of Defense of Armenia.
Referring to the question of what functions will be assigned to the US Army representative in the RA Defense Ministry, the embassy reported: “The civilian consultant is not funded by the US military or the Department of Defense. Funding is provided by the State Department, and the consultant will assist in strengthening Armenia’s defense institutions. The consultant will work in Armenia and have regular contact with the Embassy and the Ministry of Defense.
The embassy also added that through advisory support, the United States intends to help Armenia improve the management of the security sector, which will, in turn, strengthen Armenian-American relations.”The selection of the civilian adviser has been completed, and he will start work later this year,” the US Embassy in Armenia concluded.
