“The North Atlantic Treaty Organization will remain a regional structure and will not expand to Asia, but it must respond to the events taking place in that region.” NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced this at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
“You are right that NATO is a transatlantic alliance; we will remain a regional alliance. However, the threats threatening the transatlantic area are not regional. Security is global. What happens in Asia is important in Europe, and vice versa,” he said. “We must understand that it is not about NATO’s movement towards Asia but about China approaching our doors,” Stoltenberg added.
