The bill criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide causes dichotomy in France. During Serzh Sargsyan’s visit to France, Francois Hollande assured that there will be elaborated a more secure bill which won’t have the destiny of the previous bill proposed by Valeri Boyer and rejected by the constitutional commission.
French-Armenian expert Hrach Varzhapetyan states this second bill is keen to be rejected from another perspective too. The reason is the bill is presented by an opposition member. Varzhapetyan states this time the bill will fail too and leave the French-Armenian diaspora to wait for a government elaborated bill to be put into discussion and most probably accepted. Varzhapetyan adds in case the government proposes the bill, those sending the message will shift from opposition to the government which can contribute to the positive outcome.
Varzhapetyan concludes that this issue has caused a dichotomy within France particularly complementing Turkish and Azeri policy of denying the Genocide.
