Official sources report that the governor of East Azerbaijan province, Ahmed Alireza Beigi noted that Iran is trying to increase its share in the barter between the countries. As the governor says, the successful cooperation between the two countries is because of the fact that there has been a long-standing relationship between those two countries.
Owing to the special geographical location of Armenia, the only route, on which the most important supplies to the country are carried out, goes through the Iranian province of Eastern Azerbaijan and hence, according to its economic potential, it can become a major partner of Armenia.
Beigi also stated that the basis of the Armenian economy is agriculture. This country has enough water and land resources, which contributes to the development of its agricultural sector, and this potential can be used for mutually beneficial cooperation.
