Valerie Boyer recently came up with a different initiative criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide. This worries the French Armenians. Adoption of the law criminalizing the denial of failure can put a stop to the process, if it is approved by the Parliament of the French government, as president Francois Hollande stated.
The First Armenian News and Analyses interviewed the head of “Hay Dat” office in Paris, Hrach Varzhapetyan, who mentioned the commission of the Armenian organization of France (CCAF) keeps in touch with Boyer and told her the concern of the community that it would be better to walk along the president’s policy because it is more stable in its character. Varzhapetyan informed the negotiations with Boyer are still in process so as the initiative was either taken away from the agenda of the parliament or did not hurt the process.
Varzhapetyan states it is natural if the initiative is represented by the government, the overwhelming majority in the parliament will have its say which is a better approach. No matter how humanistic and Armenian-oriented the initiative is, individual initiative should be withdrawn for the public sake. Varzhapetyan stated the Armenian community will not let the initiative fail but it should be approached in a careful and concrete manner.
Another thing Varzhapetyan mentioned was that the civic society in France is not ready for such initiatives, however it is the government who proposes bills to become laws and the Armenian community has a lot of work to do in the sphere of maturity among the civic society about this issue. Varzhapetyan concluded they put all their effort to reach the desired aim.
Previously Valerie Boyer had presented an initiative of criminalizing the denial of Genocide which did not differ in content from the previous one which was failed.
