After nine years of struggle, yesterday the Court of First Instance of Shirak region announced the acquittal of Razmik Sargsyan, Musa Serobyan Arayik Zalyan for the scandalous case of Mataghis. However, the murderers of two soldiers Roma Yeghiazaryan and Hovsep Mkrtumyan are not disclosed.
In the conversation with “First News and Analyses” head of HCA Vanadzor office, lawyer Arthur Sakunts said that when the verdict comes into force the advocacy group must be teamed for the legal protection of the victims’ heirs. However, in his opinion, military prosecutors will appeal the verdict, because the military prosecutor Gevorg Kostanyan expressed the opinion that the charges were substantiated.
“There is a legal way, which we will follow till the final revelation of this case,” clarified Arthur Sakunts.
Referring to the former military prosecutor Gagik Jhangiryan’s statement that the defendants were guilty, legal expert said that he, in fact, once again proved that he is not a lawyer.
“Judicial power is the highest authority, the decision and determination of which shall be mandatory for everyone. He has challenged the court’s decision and put himslef higher the judicial power. His statement is not an expression of a professional lawyer, but a nervous response. He is out of patience because he knows that will have to answer for the groundless charges,” said Arthur Sakunts.
