The First Aremnian News and Analyses interviewed political analyst, Sorbonne University PhD Hayk Martirosyan.
He stated he did not see Armenia actively going towards the EU integration, moreover, there is no such process at all. Armenia with such a political structure, economic condition and government will never be a part of the EU. EU integration is a myth besides it is not welcoming of the EU to have new members in the coming 10 years.
Martirosyan states Armenia might change its pro-Moscow stream towards pro-Brussels, because Moscow is constantly disappointing Armenia and Brussels is a neutral and alluring alternative. Armenia has no way but to maneuver between the East and the West and this situation will last about a hundred years whether we want it or not, states Martirosyan. He thinks the center of attention in the region is Armenia and not Israel, and Syria is the prelude towards the changes in the region.
Martirosyan also talked about the upcoming presidential elections and stated people in Armenia are more inclined to support a representative candidate and that the figure of the candidate makes sense not only from the image but from the content point of view too. The political analyst stated after the elections the president himself must undertake the process of shifting the government regime towards the parliamentary one because that is the only guarantor for a true democracy and it has no alternatives in Armenia.
Martirosyan concluded stating that it would be better for a mass of electors who drag themselves and the country into nothing, woke up and thought of their civic responsibilities otherwise Armenia would turn to a “banana-country” where there is no banana at all.
