The presidential election boycott will not work in Armenia. Such a statement announced the expert of political and election technology Armen Badalyan in conversation with “First News and Analyses”, talking about efficiency and the possibility of boycotting the presidential elections.
Proving his point of view, the expert said that it is already vivid that the main parties of the presidential elections are going to be the Republican Party, the PAP and the ANC. According to him, at least two of these three will participate in the elections because Republicans said that they want to nominate their own candidate, the PAP has the same intention, and the ANC is still unclear about its participation.
“At least two out of these three made a decision, and a boycott will not work, especially when the head of “Heritage” party Raffi Hovhannisyan also announced that he will run in the elections. Even if we manage to do such a thing, it will not be a strike because the government would register anyone and ensure de jure competition in the election. This means that the boycott is not a way out. Boycott is based on the idea that society has to determine and shape the power, but the public cannot form a government by voting.”
