After 21 years of Armenia’s independence, it seems that the presidential elections or any other serious and important political events should have been held on a quite mature level, and from year to year maturation process of state, society, policy should have been observed. But in the 21th century, i.e. in the years of the state’s adulthood, we witness not the evolution and maturation of it, but eloquent testimony of degradation. Eloquent, because at this point the launch of Armenia’s independence and 21-year-old threshold crossed in the face of Levon Ter-Petrosyan and Gagik Tsarukyan.
In the first years of independence Armenia had quite an intellectual level. It even had representatives of the elite with scientific degrees and titles, as well as a scholar president, who, however, ties the hope of his political career and the future of Armenia with a nicknamed oligarch, about who it may be overestimation to mention about sense of intellect, academic degree or intellectual level. Gagik Tsarukyan is just an ordinary man, who had the luck to be in the right moment, right place, next to right people and became a billionaire.
And today the first President with scientific title and intellectual great esteem not only has to tie his own hopes, but also persuade the public to connect their hopes with world champion Gagik Tsarukyan.
Any other example, any other episode probably would not have been able to express so richly and vividly the historical degradation of independent Armenia, as this “diplomatic” cooperation. Nothing could so accurately describe the modern state of Armenia, the point Armenia has reached, and the deadlock, that is waiting for the country and the public after this point, if this “logical” process continues, reaching its “honorable” harbor.
Future narrators, descents perhaps would not need to study in detail developments of independent Armenia in the first two decades it order to understand the process, the logic and content of the country’s development, the cultural values and guidelines. It will be just enough to get acquainted to the biographies of Levon Ter-Petrosyan and Gagik Tsarukyan and learn their political cooperation. It will be enough for the future generations to fully see into the history of independent Armenia in the first two decades.
