The expert of the “Carnegie” foundation on South Caucasus Thomas de Vaal thinks Armenia lacks a politician like Bidzina Ivanishvili. “Radio Liberty” reports de Vaal thinks the incumbent government will be reelected after the presidential elections because Serzh Sargsyan does not have serious opponents and that Tsarukyan is not on the same stand as Ivanishvili was.
The expert believes after the reelection Sargsyan will try to ameliorate the relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey. Nagorno Karabakh issue for de Vaal is in a rather difficult situation and the two countries will not manage to achieve positive results in the upcoming future. De Vaal spoke of the Georgian elections and said there was no such democratic election in the region ever. He highly appreciated the fact that democracy won there. He called the Georgian democracy an “involuntary” one but it is still a democracy and although these two parties are in the same government, it will not be easy to deal with the opponent.
