akhaltskha.net reports that during the previous year, there has been an oppression of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia. This was reported in the annual report of the U.S. State Department on freedom of speech and religion.
“Systemic issues, such as the return of arguable church property, there is no serious progress. Not only the Georgian Church, but also the Armenian Apostolic and Catholic churches demand the return of property, confiscated during the Soviet years. The representatives of the last two, say that the authorities do not take any step, fearing to lose the voters, who are under the influence of the Georgian Orthodox Church,”-noted the authors of the report, stressing that the main misgiving of the Armenian Apostolic Church is related to 6 disputed churches, 5 of which are located in Tbilisi and one in Akhaltsikhe.
