On the initiative of ‘Aparaj’ newspaper yesterday, on august 4, in Armenian Revolution Federation ‘s “Nikol Duman” center a round table took place on “ The situation in Syria, the destiny of Syrian-Armenians and the reaction of Armenians and Armenian authorities”.
The political and social organizations of Nagorno Karabakh and Artsakh mass media were invited to the round table discussion. The volunteer historian and specialist of Islam studies Meghri Japaghdzuryan also took part in the meeting describing the situation and the possible development of events in Syria.
Questions were discussed about what the Artsakh people can do in case of necessity of helping with material problems and even with human resources.
“We have felt the same pain and are ready to help Syrian-Armenians, give them lplacein our houses. But this question must be solved on the state level.” – mentioned the member of “Free Motherland” party Valeri Khachatryan. “I don’t doubt the honesty of all the Armenians. But it does not solve the problem. What happened to thousands of Armenians who came from Baku and Sumgait? Their lives were broken. Thus we must help Syrian-Armenians there in Syria. Turkey is also responsible for them being the one who did the Genocide making people emigrate. Russia, USA and other bodies must also take responsibility for them.” –said the director of social organization “Center of Universal Cooperation” Jane Krikorova.
“Syria is the country which has helped thousands of Armenians having escaped from Genocide. And it is not right to abandon it in such a difficult situation. The authorities must help them.” – said the director of press service of Nagorno Karabakh parliament Michael Hajiyan.
“If the Artsakh people did not struggle, nobody woutld help them during Artsakh war. We were together and we won. The Syrians as well must join, take a weapon and we will support the Syrian-Armenians too”, said the member of “Union of Freedom Fighters” of Nagorno Karabakh.
Anyhow, as a result of long discussion no joint decision was made. Another meeting is scheduled on Monday with a larger group.
