November 6-9 Baku will host the UN-sponsored Internet Governance Forum, during which acted the international human rights organization Human Rights Watch.
A statement, published on the company’s webpage, says that “freedom of speech in Azerbaijan is very limited.” There are “at least 8 journalists and 3 human rights defender imprisoned” in that country.
According to Human Rights Watch, Azerbaijani government should use this opportunity to release the mentioned prisoners. The organization also called on Ban Ki-moon to remind Azerbaijan its obligations on human rights.
Human Rights Watch provided 10-page report and alerts in the form of photographs, which detailed the cases of human rights violations in Azerbaijan.
UN Secretary-General’s annual initiative is discussing the internet policy issues. This year the theme of the forum is the Internet governance role in the development issues.
