Azerbaijani Turan news agency reported that Amnesty International (AI) human rights organization has published a special report on civil liberties.
The report says that the freedom of speech is seriously limited in Azerbaijan, and that those who dare to criticize President Ilham Aliyev, his family or the government, are subjected to serious risk. AI has called on the government to stop the persecution of dissidents and ensure the fundamental right of free expression.
AI report set out numerous facts of violation of rights and freedoms of Azerbaijani citizens, including persecution of bloggers, journalists, and human rights activists. The report paid special attention to Nakhichevan, where fundamental freedoms are violated more than in Azerbaijan.
AI also urges international organizations and the United Nations, the EU and other partners to pay greater attention to the protection of human rights in Azerbaijan.
