Vice-president of Iran’s Environment Protection Organization Mohammad Javad Mohammadizadeh said that the UN Development Program has budgeted 135 million dollar to Iran to terminate the environmental disaster in Lake Urmia.
He noted that wrong application of the water flowing from the rivers into the lake makes Lake Urmia to dry.
Recall that Lake Urmia is situated in the middle of Eastern and Western Azerbaijan provinces of Iran. 70 percent of 6 000 sq m lake has dried up. Every liter of the lake water contains 400 grams of salt.
In September, 2011 the government of Iran provided 900 million dollar to stop the environmental disaster in Lake Urmia.
