Armenian Embassy to Syria will not be closed. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Minasyan reported the information to the journalists today.
The Government discussed this question behind the closed doors during the meeting on Friday. “We discussed technical questions”, Minasyan added.
“Now we have our Embassy in Damascus and Counsulate General in Aleppo.
A large Armenian community lives in Syria of about 80-100000 people, from which 50-60 thousands live in Aleppo and the others in Latakia, Damascus, Kesab, El-Qamishli. The community plays an important role in the socio- cultural and political life of the country. Armenian community in Syria is one of the most powerful ones in the Diaspora.
Great number of Armenians is emigrating from Syria to Armenia because of thetense political situation.
