168 hours writes that on August 8, the RF President Vladimir Putin invited the President of Armenia President Serzh Sargsyan to Moscow in order to clarify the final position of Armenia in EurAsEC – either a member, or final refusal.
It is known that in this organization, Armenia is an observer. EurAsEC is a current topic in the sense that Russia is planning to establish the factual basis of the Eurasian Union in 2015. Recently it is notable that Russia has a significant diplomatic and moralizing pressure on Armenia in the issue of Eurasian Union.
Apparently, the global policy context shows that Russia is planning to record widespread regression and invincible position in the post-Soviet borders, at least those parts where it is more or less viable. In this sense, the future of Armenia is vital, because it is the only position in the South Caucasus on Russia’s strategic direction, by losing which it loses the Caucasus and neighboring regions.
There is no doubt that the problem is too fundamental for Russia but it has fundamental importance for Armenia too, since Armenia is moving towards the European Union, which in its turn gave a signal warning to play by the rules of Europe or the European Union. If Putin, before the presidential election, tightens the requirement of making a final decision, then it also says that the upcoming presidential election in Armenia, in essence, turns into the elections between West and Russia. That means, the political forces in the presidential election would be not only responsible in front of West or Russia, but also will have to make their decision evident in front of the society, because it is clear that success will accompany those, who will be able to present convincing arguments to the public in favor of their election.
The start of the competition is given, and if the other political forces want to remove Russian councilor system, than they probably should be more active, specific, clear and honest with the public contacts and be able to break the stereotypes.
