Hungarian government sent a note to the foreign Ministry of Armenia with an expectation to restore the diplomatic relations which were cut when Hungray extradited Ramil Safarov to Azerbaijan. Safarov, an Azerbaijani ofccier, killed Armenian Gourgen margaryan during NATo training in Budapest in 2004. Should be noted that earlier Hungary urged to restore the relations, saying that otherwise the consequences will be bad for Armenia.
Ara Papyan, former Ambassador of Armenia to Canada, the head of the “Modus Vivendi” centre had an interview with our journalist and talked about Hungary’s policy over Ramil Safarov case.
“We have cut all the diplomatic ties with Hungary because we had those reasons. The thing is that they somehow threaten us and say that it would be bad for Armenia if we won’t restore the relations. I’m sure that we mustn’t do any steps towards the issue unless Hungary does something. What has it done so far? Nothing. No serious steps have been done from the Hungarian side concerning Safarov’s extradition. I will explain why we shouldn’t restore the relations. If we do so, than entire world, all Armenians, will think that our speeches were just for making a noise, and that’s all. We must wait until Hungarian government makes an appropriate step over “Safarov scandal”.
