Azerbaijani media reports that Azerbaijani Industry and Energy Minister, Natig Aliyev, during the Oil, Gas and Media conference in Baku announced that Caspian gas will be sufficient to fill gas transportation infrastructure to ensure gas supply to Europe.
“In this case the question is about the gas not only from Azerbaijan, but also from Turkmenistan, which seeks to ensure access of its own gas to Europe,” said Aliyev and added “at present Azerbaijan’s proven gas reserves exceed 2.5 trillion cubic meters, in Turkmenistan – 7 trillion cubic meters.”
Transportation of gas from Central Asia, in particular from Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan could become reality by constructing Trans-Caspian gas pipeline, which could be one of the links of the “Southern Gas Corridor”.
Accordingly, this will enable Azerbaijan to become a transit country along with exporting country.
