”Our primary interest lies in joining NATO and the European Unionsince there’s no better democratic institution than EU, and no better international organization than NATO in world at the moment” Leader of the oppositional “Georgian Dream” coalition Bidzina Ivanishvili stated this today during the TV broadcast of the show “Accents” on Georgian TV.
“I never said it was Georgia to start the war. For centuries Russia planned its way out through the Caucasus and they needed a cause to act so this time- a cause Saakashvili gave them. Nevertheless, instead of trying to involve as many international observers as possible, Saakashvili turned to arms” noted Ivanishvili clarifying the existing opinion of him claiming Georgia to be the cause of the 2008 August war. Commenting on Russia’s interest in Georgia Ivanishvili noted it normal that every state and Russia included has its own interests which may not coincide with those of Georgia. “ The best way to develop Georgia is to realize it won’t ever be the big player in the international arena as Saakashvili tries to make out of the country” stated Ivanishvili.
