Democracy will be established in Armenia at the moment when the judicial system of the country is independent. REGNUM news agency correspondent reports that this was said in the press conference in Yerevan by the chairman of the “Institute of civic society of Armenia” Artak Kirakosyan on September 15.
According to his words, the six-years imprisonment of the activists of the opposition “Armenian National Congress”, the unexposed murders of March 1 2008, the absence of any compensation to the families of the victims and other negative phenomena mark that there can be no word about democracy in Armenia.
According to Kirakosyan the judicial system revealed its essence on the very March 1st events. “Judicial investigation is a serious problem for the Armenian society.”- announced Kirakosyan.
Another member of the conference, psychologist Karine Nalchajyan assured that Armenian nation doesn’t need democracy. “The Armenians need authoritarian regime, as they trust more in people with big wallets and fat necks. But authoritarian regime must know its limits”- announced the psychologist adding that a democratic leader is considered a weak one among Armenians.
“When we compare our treatment to the national values and the European ones in our conscience, we see that they are incompatible. Democracy advances in the republic with great difficulty. Armenia is a specific country and we need a unique approach. In any case, for establishing democracy Armenia needs stability first of all in economic sense. Many issues of democracy are based on economy.”- said Nalchajyan adding that industrialization also has a great role. The main task of Armenia, according to the psychologist, is an authority with people of self-conscience and with great amount of knowledge.
