Azerbaijani media, citing the announcement of Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister, Mahmud Mammadquliyev, reports that Azerbaijan is not planning to join the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
“There are many organizations across the world and Azerbaijan cannot join each of them. Prior to joining any organization we first consider the issue in terms of national interests. In addition, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development is the structure that united the developed countries and Azerbaijan should primarily ensure maximally favorable conditions for membership. Therefore, we do not hurry with this issue. It should also be noted that this organization is not as strong as it was 15-20 years ago”-stressed Mammadquliyev.
The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development is an international economic organization of 34 countries founded in 1961 to stimulate economic progress and world trade. It is a forum of countries committed to democracy and the market economy, providing a platform to compare policy experiences, seek answers to common problems, identify good practices, and co-ordinate domestic and international policies of its members.
