Member of “Prosperous Armenia” faction, former Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian today noted in National Assembly session that the PAP’s victory in Armenia’s second largest city of Gyumri, shows that the single-party system began to give up its positions.’’ Recall that on September 9, at the local elections that took place in Gyumri the PAP candidate Balasanyan was elected for the post of mayor.
According to Oskanian, in Gyumri, where May parliamentary elections took place and the PAP received the largest number of votes, the Republican Party had no other alternative than to support the PAP’s candidate. “They did not want to show that they were losing that city, and supported Balasanyan. Regardless of this the PAP’s candidate would have won there, “said the Minister.
Armenian sources report that PAP will represent its stance on the presidential elections in October. “I think that all the parties, not just the PAP, should clarify their position in October. I haven’t made up my mind too, because I am not an individual politician any more, but a member of PAP.” noted Oskanian.
He also referred to the current socio-economic situation, commenting that the government’s economic growth does not correspond to reality, and on this background the government cannot fight against monopolistic structures.
