The local governmental elections are going to be shocking for the citizens of Syunik region.
Artur Atayan, the mayor of Kapan city, Syunik region, has rejected to participate in the upcoming elections. Note, Atayan is the only candidate from the ARF.
Atayan gave the following explanation concerning his decision:
“I was thinking that the upcoming elections would be fare and all the candidates would have the chance to participate in civilized elections, but day by day, there is a huge tension coming up in the city, and to go against them is just nonsense. Moreover, people who support me , and are with me, day by day undergo to psychological and financial pressures, and I can’t let it to continue.” – This was the explanation of Atayan, concerning the issue why he has rejected.
“Hraparak” writes that, actually, in Kapan city we see what is going on throughout whole Armenia, in one word, Republicans totally take over the power, and if it steps back, then only to PAP, which was it former coalition member. The republicans have decided that in Kapan city the mayor should be Ashot Hayrapetyan.
According to some sources, ARF hasn’t put much effort for his only candidate. This action from the ARF is explained in the following way; the source also informs that the reason is connected with the early parliamentary elections. ARF members say that Atayan had supported Republicans, thinking that in this election they would support him. Due to this, ARF didn’t try hard to support its candidate. Meanwhile, as we see, Republicans decided to nominate Ashot Hayrapetyan, who started using unacceptable methods in Kapan. The latter, with his “men” has invited all the supporters of Atayan and has warned not to “get on his way”.
Note, Maxim Hakobyan, the “owner” of the region, the executive director of Zangezur copper plant, in the previous elections was supporting Atayan, and the latter won the elections.
We should mention that now the mayor of Kapan is clear, it is Ashot Hayrapetyan, since he is the only candidate for the post in Kapan.
Concerning this issue, yesterday”Hraparak” had an interview with the vice-president of the Republicans, Galust Sahakyan, giving a question whether they imagine the civilized elections in this way and also a question was concerning the pressures.
Sahakyan responded:” But how did you know it from here up to Kapan? The candidate didn’t want to participate, and naturally he should have brought an explanation, and this was his explanation. What concerns the issue of pressure… I can tell you for 100 % that such pressures haven’t been from our party, we don’t have the need of doing it, especially in Kapan city”.
As we see, Republicans deny everything, but the fact is, that they are totally taking over the control of the power.
