German airline Lufthansa will cut about 20,000 short-haul flights this summer. The reason is the sharp increase in fuel prices, which has made many flights unprofitable.
The company announced that it is reducing its European route network, but passengers “will still have access to global routes, especially long-haul flights.”
“However, due to the increase in fuel prices, this will be done significantly more economically than before,” the company emphasized.
Thus, Lufthansa hopes to save more than 40,000 tons of fuel. By Tuesday, 120 flights had already been reduced, including flights from Frankfurt to Poland and Norway.
