The European Commission intends to invest at least 131 billion euros in defense and space programs by 2035, aiming to increase weapons production and reduce the gap with Russia sharply.
According to Andrius Kubilius, the European Union’s Defense Commissioner, Russia is currently significantly ahead of the EU in the production of missiles and military equipment. In artillery ammunition production, it exceeds European indicators by 2 times.
Kubilius stressed that to deter Russia, Europe must not only produce more weapons but also reduce its dependence on the United States, especially in key military technologies.
This strategic program aims to strengthen the European Union’s military-industrial complex and increase its self-sufficiency, which, according to European officials, is a necessary condition for confronting new regional challenges.
