The European Union plans to intensify cooperation with Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Turkey within the framework of a new strategy to develop transport and energy links with the Black Sea and Central Asia.
This was announced by European Commissioner Marta Koss ahead of a meeting of the EU Foreign Ministers’ Council in Luxembourg.
According to her, the main element of the strategy is the development of sustainable trade and logistics routes between Europe and Central Asia.
She stressed that the need for new routes has increased amid instability in traditional routes: the northern trade routes have been disrupted by Russia, while the southern routes are under pressure due to the conflict with Iran.
In these conditions, the EU is focusing on developing alternative corridors through the South Caucasus.
Koss also noted that the EU already has concrete projects in the region. During the meeting, the ministers will discuss further steps to deepen cooperation with the three countries, in particular in the energy and transport sectors.
