The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, announced that tomorrow the EU expects to make a positive decision on providing a 90 billion euro loan to Ukraine.
The political change expected in Hungary may be a turning point in this financial assistance process. According to Kallas, after the expected change of power in Hungary in May, when Viktor Orbán steps down as Prime Minister, negotiations with Budapest may take a new direction.
It should be recalled that Orban has long blocked initiatives aimed at Ukraine, most recently declaring that he would not approve the loan until Kyiv resumes oil supplies through the Druzhba pipeline. Unlike Orban, the main candidate for the post of Hungarian Prime Minister, Peter Magyar, has stated that he will not hinder the provision of funds, since Hungary will not have a financial participation in the process.
