Ilham Aliyev delivered a speech at the eighty-second session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, during which he touched on relations with Armenia.
“Our meeting takes place at a time of growing global uncertainty. Growing geopolitical tensions and the escalation of conflicts expose the vulnerability of international peace and security, including the fragility of decades of development achievements. In this regard, Azerbaijan reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of states,” he said.
According to him, Azerbaijan has begun to pursue a policy of peace towards Armenia. Last August, the Washington summit hosted by US President Donald Trump marked historic progress in the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
“Today, we are witnessing the fruits of peace. Trade relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia have begun, and Azerbaijan is now providing transit opportunities for Armenia. Mutual visits by civil society representatives inspire confidence,” he added.
