US Montana Governor Greg Gianforte signed a law on Wednesday banning the social network “TikTok” in his state. Montana thus became the first US state to ban the app.
The law, which takes effect Jan. 1, bans TikTok from operating in Montana, and app stores such as the Apple App Store and Google Play Store will be made unavailable for download in the state.
Law violations can result in fines of up to $10,000 per day.
