Samantha Power, head of the US Agency for International Development (IDA), spoke about the Lachin Corridor’s blockade during the Foreign Relations Committee hearings of the US House of Representatives.
Answering the question of Congressman Chris Smith whether the American side could deliver any aid to Nagorno-Karabakh, where 120 thousand people are still under siege by Azerbaijan, he replied: that access to Nagorno-Karabakh is restricted, they have no representation on the ground and the blocking of the Lachin Corridor and the installation of a checkpoint has limited the import of everyday household goods; “IDA has sent two assessment missions to the region. We urged the UN to send an assessment mission as well.”
Power added that Nagorno-Karabakh should rely on something other than humanitarian convoys, so opening the road is imperative.
