On April 24, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Viktorovich Lavrov, met with the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, in New York. The meeting took place within the framework of the activities of the Russian presidency in the UN Security Council.
Lavrov thanked the Secretary-General for his participation in one of the Russian central meetings of the UN Security Council.
A discussion was held on various aspects of cooperation between Russia and the world organization and key issues of the international agenda. The core of the debate was the situation in and around Ukraine.
The further strengthening of the central coordinating role of the UN in global politics and the promotion of genuine multilateralism based on fundamental international legal norms, including the goals and principles of the Charter of the World Organization, were emphasized on both sides.
