“There are publications in many periodicals that Russia is bypassing sanctions, including with the help of Armenia, but it should be noted that the main motive for this is that Armenia is in the same customs and economic zone as Russia, which means that the movement of goods between the countries is free,” RA Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan told reporters today after the executive session, referring to the publication of one of the American media that Armenia is helping Russia to circumvent sanctions.
According to the minister, the Armenian side is talking with the American and European partners to dispel this concern, explaining the basis of the trade of which products and whether Armenia will not violate the EAEU agreement, “We can explain that the actions taken by Armenian companies are not aimed at putting Armenia under secondary sanctions but stem from the country’s economic and labor interests. They are not trying to help Russian partners circumvent sanctions in any way,” said Vahan Kerobyan.
The minister noted that they are trying to maintain the provisions of the EAEU agreement, ensuring that Armenian companies do not fall under secondary sanctions, “It does not mean that it is not excluded. Several companies have already been sanctioned. We try to ensure that our companies avoid it as much as possible.”
