As reported by the BBC, on Monday evening, the Virgin Orbit company from Great Britain launched the first-ever space device into orbit.
The “Boeing-747” plane took off from Cornwall’s Newquay airport with a launch vehicle around 22:00 GMT. It was supposed to launch nine satellites into orbit.
After flying west across the Atlantic for about an hour and a half, the Boeing 747 successfully launched a rocket at an altitude of about 10.7 km, which then fired the first stage engine and began ascending into orbit.
More than 500 km above Earth, the LauncherOne rocket was supposed to launch nine small satellites into orbit, which can be used for both civilian and military purposes, from ocean observation to navigational functions and disseminating news.
But Virgin Orbit said an “anomaly” prevented the rocket from reaching low Earth orbit, where it was supposed to launch satellites. The rocket satellites are lost.
