Armenia has joined the joint statement on nuclear security

Spokesperson of RA MFA Ani Badalyan commented on the International Conference on Nuclear Security results.

On May 20-21, within the framework of the ministerial part of the International Conference on Nuclear Security, a joint statement of the co-chairs was adopted. Armenia joined the list of other participating countries.

As a result of the joint work with the participating countries, several important emphases were reflected in the text of the statement, namely:

  • Participating countries undertake, among other obligations, to maintain and strengthen the comprehensive security of nuclear and other radioactive materials and facilities;
  • Concerned by existing and evolving threats to nuclear security and committed to addressing them,
  • Underline that any attack or threat of an attack on nuclear facilities used for peaceful purposes may endanger nuclear safety and refer to their obligations in this regard, which are reflected in particular in the relevant resolutions and decisions of the IAEA General Conference.

As we have reported, RA Foreign Minister Mirzoyan’s speech at the forum on May 20 emphasized global nuclear security and RA’s priorities in the field.1
