In Armenian families women are mostly exposed to psychological violence. Today Taguhi Arshakyan, responsible for public relations of “Women’s Right Centre” NGO spoke about this and discussed the types of violence that Armenian women are exposed to.
She mentioned that most of the people who came to their organization had experienced psychological violence. In the second place is the physical violence and in the third the sexual violence.
Taguhi Arshakyan mentioned that the violence in families is very common in Armenia and relative organizations make certain steps in order to prevent it.
“We can stop that, and “Women’s Right Centre” NGO is working on it, we have hot line agency, and women can get psychological and juridical support and after, women decide themselves whether to come to our agency or not, it is important for any women to step up and get information about their rights”, mentioned the member of the organization.
During a joint press conference, the NGO’s lawyer Asya Ohanyan mentioned that Armenia’s Constitution does not have a separate section devoted to “family violence”, which makes the lawyer’s work a bit more difficult.
The psychologist Marine Martirosyan mentioned that family violence affects both women and children at home.
