Iran’s Ambassador to Armenia, Mehdi Sobhani, stated that their policy towards Armenia is principled.
“And all the governments that come to power act within the framework of that policy,” he said. The ambassador repeated the position voiced many times by Iran, that they respect the sovereignty of Armenia and are against the internationally accepted borders and any geopolitical changes. “This position will never change, regardless of who comes to power in Iran or Armenia,” he said.
The ambassador also referred to Armenia’s decision to recognize the state of Palestine, noting that Armenia had taken the right step. “This brave and positive step by the RA shows that the international community really values the rights of the Palestinian people and also stands against the violation of the rights of the Palestinian women, men, and children by the Zionist regime.”
The ambassador answered the question about Azerbaijan’s aggressive rhetoric: “If the countries request peace, they should not speak to each other in the language of threats. As for the form of cooperation with Armenia, it depends on the Armenian government. We have expressed our readiness to cooperate in all areas based on mutual understanding; however, it must be by mutual desire.”
It’s noteworthy that the Iranian presidential elections started today. A polling station was also opened at the Iranian Embassy in Armenia.
